This poster is part of a series I created to commemorate International Working Women’s Day (IWWD) in 2024. It is part of a larger reclamation of what today has become simply known as “International Women’s Day,” which often serves as merely an excuse to push a defanged feminism that obscures the class character of historical and contemporary struggles for women’s liberation. The historical contributions of working class women to liberation movements cannot be understated. From the origins of IWWD in the Russian Revolution to the interconnected, anticolonial struggles for the liberation of Ireland and Palestine, women have played crucial parts that are often overlooked.
International Working Women’s Day was founded by leaders who understood that women’s equality could never be realized until capitalism and imperialism were overthrown. The call of IWWD and of the radical women’s liberation struggle is to break the chains of imperialist dominance which hold Palestine, Ireland, and the peace loving peoples of the entire world in bondage. Only then can we have true liberation for all.
